Default ATO Pictures wins big at Sundance with 'Joshua' and a new Dave Matthews song 'Fly'

A recent article by The Hook discusses ATO Pictures new feature film "Joshua" which was featured at the Sundance Film Festival on Saturday, January 27th, 2007. The film won for Excellence in Cinematography.

Dave Matthews was spotted at the Film Festival in support for the new movie.

There is a short Q&A on the sundance film fesival website.

This question in particular give more details on why Dave stopped into a studio for a few days in June 2006. Check out that article.

Quote:
Q: It’s so amazing that the song that Dave Matthews wrote fit so perfectly... was the song first, or the movie?

Ratliff: The fact of the matter is that when we wrote the script, we had a song in the end that was a little misleading that already existed and [production company] ATO Pictures is an offshoot of ATO Records, which is owned by Dave Matthews, so Dave Matthews was a part of this. And he agreed to write the song in the end and we were very happy about that, but the song never came. And he was on tour and production started, we were waiting for the song, and so we pushed that shooting date and it never came, never came. Then two days before we were shooting that, he landed in Pittsburgh, just found a studio and recorded the song. It was one of the happier days because my big worry was, Well, what if the song sucks? But the song was amazing, it was perfect, and he drew from the script and then Jacob Kogan learned it in two days and we were all very scared

Cool article about Dave Matthews role in writing the song "Fly" for the movie "Joshua"

Article Link

Quote:
Although Dave Matthews' face is never seen in the new movie "Joshua," he plays a crucial role in the spooky film, writing the song the demented child character croons as the film draws to a close.

"I wanted it to be delivered in a sweet way by the boy, but I also wanted it to be really horrifying," the singer told The Associated Press.

"Joshua," which opens in limited release Friday and expands to wider release later this month, is about a musical child whose family life dramatically alters once his baby sister is born. Quickly, the family starts to fall apart, and Joshua seems to be at the center of its downfall.
